Milestones of HKIHRM

The Hong Kong Institute of Personnel Management (HKIPM) was officially registered in February. First Annual General Meeting was held and Peter Barrett was elected first President of the new Institute.

First newsletter was published in May.

HKIPM conducted its first survey of executive compensation (now the renowned annual Pay
Trend and Pay Level Survey
).


1980

HKIPM held its first two-day HKIPM Annual Convention.
1983Ø ˜ HKIPM appointed its first full time secretariat staff.
1985Ø ˜ HKIPM drew up A Code of Conduct and Ethics for Human Resources Professionals.
1987Ø ˜ HKIPM celebrated its 10th anniversary, and changed its logo.

HKIPM conducted its first Emigration from Hong Kong  an Organizational Survey.
HKIPM conducted The Present State of Personnel Management in Hong Kong (now the Research on HRM Strategies and Practices in Hong Kong).
1991Ø ˜ HKIPM joined hands with the Hong Kong government and the HongKong Bank to form
the Hong Kong IPM Manpower International Limited.
1992Ø ˜ TheHong Kong Society for Training and Development merged with HKIPM.
1994Ø ˜ HKIPM published The Employment Ordinance – An Annotated Guide
˜ HKIPM introduced the Staff Opinion Survey (now the Employee Experience SurveyTM ).
˜ HKIPM formed the Asia Pacific Group.
˜ HKIPM changed its name to Hong Kong Institute of Human Resource Management . A new mission statement was also announced.

HKIHRM joined hands with The Conference Board of the US to organize its first Conference
Board Conference in Asia.
˜ President Eddie Ng was elected President of the Asia Pacific Federation of Human Resource Management (APFHRM) 1995 - 1999.
˜ HKIHRM formed the PRC Club (now the China Interest Group).

HKIHRM, in conjunction with the APFHRM and World Federation of Personnel Management
Associations (WFPMA), organized the 1996 World Congress on Personnel Management.
˜ HKIHRM launched its official website on May 1.

HKIHRM introduced the Global Remuneration ProfessionalR (GRP) programs and examinations of
the American Compensation Association (now WorldatWork) in Hong Kong.

HKIHRM produced the Data Privacy Guidelines.
˜ HKIHRM published the Hong Kong Employment Law Manual.

HKIHRM and the University of Michigan Business School jointly conducted Human
Resource Competencies Study in Hong Kong.

HKIHRM published "News Digest" – a daily e-summary of HR-related news (now daily

HKIHRM published professional monthly journal "People Today" (now "Human
Resources").

HKIHRM website was redesigned with new members-only access.
HKIHRM as one of the founding members of the CPD Alliance. The Alliance was formed by some 20 professional organizations to promote the importance of continuing professional development.
HKIHRM introduced complimentary legal advisory service to corporate members.
2002Ø ˜ HKIHRM set four initiatives (Accreditation, China, Website/IT and SMEs) as key development areas.
