Welcome Message

Thank you for visiting the website of the Hong Kong Institute of Human Resource Management (HKIHRM).

The HKIHRM’s history can be dated back to 1969 from a modest beginning. The Institute commenced as a personnel management club set up through the initiative of the leaders of four major corporations. In 1977, recognising the growing needs for improving personnel management practices in Hong Kong, a group of founding members set up the Institute of Personnel Management. Their vision succeeded in establishing a solid foundation on which the Institute has survived and thrived.

After more than three decades, the HKIHRM has developed into the most representative professional human resource institute in Hong Kong. It now has around 5,400 members, with some 600 of whom being corporate members. The Institute organises multi-level training programmes, conducts surveys and shares professional intelligence by organising signature events such as the HR Excellence Awards programme and the Annual Conference and Exhibition. In 2010, the Institute launched the visionary HR Professional Standards Model to define the standards for evaluation and enhancement in human resource.

In the international arena, the HKIHRM is a member of the Asia Pacific Federation of Human Resource Management which is one of the continental federations under the World Federation of People Management Associations. The Institute has also partnered with the Chartered Institute of Personnel Development from the United Kingdom and HR People and Strategy from the United States to foster exchanges on an international level. In the Mainland, it has established a wide network with statutory bodies and established four chapters to address the vast geographical and diverse people management issues.

The Institute’s latest initiative is to set up a qualifications framework (QF) for the human resource profession by working closely with the government’s Qualifications Framework secretariat. With a QF in place, the knowledge and skill sets of human resource professionals can be clearly and precisely bench-marked, thus enhancing the professionalism of human resource practitioners.

We hope that through this website, you will have a better understanding of the Institute’s work and development, and obtain information which you may find useful. Your comments and feedback concerning the content and features of our website will be most welcome for us to do better.
