Remarks:
As the CPD activities undertaken by every member can be very different so as to match against unique personal profile, the Institute will at this stage rely on YOUR own judgment on whether an activity is HR related and beneficial to continuing practice.

You may answer the following questions for a simple self-assessment. If the answer to any of the questions is 'yes', the activity is likely to be counted as CPD:

Will the activity enhance my knowledge / expertise / skills / understanding of the HR profession?
Will the activity enable me to practise more competently / effectively as a HR professional?
Will the activity keep me aware of the changing need(s) in the HR profession that I have to address to?

How to count

The number of CPD hours acquired will correspond to the number of hours scheduled for each activity.
The calculation is as follows:

i) Structured Programmes

For structured programmes in the format of formal participation in a training course, every 0.5 contact hour (counts as 0.5 CPD hour) is the minimum CPD hour unit. Activity duration should be based on time specified on the activity's publicity/ printed materials (such as program flyer or certificate of attendance).

Lunches, unless they are lunch seminars, should not be included in the calculation. Tea breaks lasting for 31 minutes or more should also not be counted.

ii) Self-directed Studies

For an event or a project or an assignment and unstructured tasks which cover self-directed studies, the CPD hours should be based on the actual time engaged in that activity/ learning.  Every 0.5 contact hour (counts as 0.5 CPD hour) is the minimum CPD hour unit. A maximum of 50% of the total CPD hours required can be acquired from engaging in these type of activities.

Associate Members can gain a maximum of 2.5 CPD hours per annum from an event or a project or an assignment and unstructured tasks which cover self-directed studies.

Professional Members and Fellow Members can gain a maximum of 5 CPD hours per annum from an event or a project or an assignment and unstructured tasks which cover self-directed studies.

CPD hours culminated in excess of the requirements within a valid membership year cannot be carried forward to the membership year immediately following.
