Recognition of HR professionalism and best practices

[28 September 2012 – Hong Kong] The HR Excellence Awards 2012, organised by Hong Kong Institute of Human Resource Management (HKIHRM), was successfully concluded. At the HKIHRM 35th Anniversary Dinner cum HR Excellence Awards 2012 Presentation Ceremony held on 21September 2012, more than 200 distinguished guests, award winners and members from the HR profession gathered together to greet the award winners. Mr Paul Tang, JP, Secretary for the Civil Service, Civil Service Bureau, attended as officiating guest of this grand event.

Mr Francis Mok, President of the HKIHRM, remarked in his welcome speech at the ceremony, “the HR Excellence Awards recognise people from our industry who aspire to high professional standards and constantly look into developing, motivating and retaining talent in their corporations. HR takes on an increasingly important role as business partner driving business success. In selecting the winners, the judges are looking for strategies and practices which have direct impacts on human capital growth and business performance, innovations which set new industry standards, and total solutions which are integrated with other core elements of an organisation.”

On the judging panel were eminent members of government, HR profession, business world and academia: Mr Paul Tang, JP, Secretary for the Civil Service, Civil Service Bureau, HKSAR; Mr Francis Mok, President, HKIHRM; Ms Caroline Mak, Regional Director, North Asia, The Dairy Farm Group; Prof Randy Chiu, Director, Centre for HR Strategy and Development, Hong Kong Baptist University and Mr William Chan, Executive Council member, HKIHRM. Winners of the HR Excellence Awards were selected after a stringent and fair and impartial judging process (see appendix for the winner list).

The award programme, held first time by the HKIHRM, received overwhelmingly positive responses. Within the one-month enrolment period, more than 100 entries were received. The award programme is a great tool to demonstrate the Institute’s missions, that is, to develop, maintain and enhance the professional HR management standards in Hong Kong. The judging criteria were based on the Institute’s HR Professional Standards Model introduced in 2010.
