Knowledge (HR Professional Areas)

The Institute has defined the scope and depth of the core knowledge areas– the Body of Knowledge (BoK) - that an HR practitioner should acquire. The Body of Knowledge embraces a board spectrum of the knowledge required to carry out HR management and HR development functions which, in themselves, can be a specialised area. There are five professional areas of knowledge, namely:

  

Business Knowledge for HR Employee Engagement Employment Law Learning and Development Reward Management Sourcing and Staffing

  

The Body of Knowledge provides a framework to HR professionals to focus their learning and development opportunities on the new perspectives and knowledge.

When compiling the HR Body of Knowledge, the Institute has made reference to:

  • HR competency and the HR role and responsibilities
  • HR books, journals, articles and other materials
  • Materials of other HR institutes outside Hong Kong
  • Content and effectiveness of relevant HKIHRM training programmes currently in place
