Mr Ian Choy, F.I.H.R.M.(HK)
As we welcome 2026, I extend my heartfelt New Year greetings to all HKIHRM members, partners, and friends. May the year ahead bring you good health, happiness, and fulfilment in every endeavour.
It has been six months since I assumed the presidency of HKIHRM, and I am deeply encouraged by the energy and unity of Hong Kong’s largest HR community. The past year was not without its challenges — from the last-minute rescheduling of our Annual Conference due to a typhoon to the tragic Tai Po fire — yet we overcame them together with resilience and determination.
Despite these trials, 2025 was marked as a year of meaningful achievements. Our flagship events — including the HR Excellence Awards, Annual Conference & Exhibition, and the Pay Trend and Benefits Seminar — were successfully delivered with record high participation and support.
These accomplishments would not have been possible without the dedication of our members, participants, sponsors, and all partners. I offer my sincerest appreciation for all your trust, commitment, and collaboration.
Looking ahead, 2026 promises to be another exciting and transformative year for HKIHRM. Shortly after taking on this important role, my fellow Executive Council members and I held a strategic meeting to review the Institute’s mission and priorities.
As Hong Kong’s leading HR professional body, we recognise our responsibility to extend our influence and thought leadership beyond local boundaries; we are also committed to create greater value to members through enhanced professional learning and complimentary events.
In the coming year, we will be stepping up our efforts on three fronts: strengthening our role beyond Hong Kong; investing in future talent and equipping the profession for the AI era.
Building our growing connection beyond the local HR community , we are proud to once again take part in the milestone Global Talent Summit 2026, which will bring together leaders, policymakers, and professionals to exchange insights on a truly international stage. The HR Excellence Awards Presentation Ceremony 2025/26 will be featured as an official satellite event of Global Talent Summit Week, further elevating our international visibility and impact.
We will continue to deepen our engagement across the Greater Bay Area (GBA), having successfully organised member delegations to Qianhai and Nansha last year. Building on this strong momentum, we will explore broader collaborations across the regions.
Investing in future talent remains central to our mission. Through our well-received Mentorship Programme, we are connecting young practitioners with experienced professionals to foster knowledge exchange and career growth. It is always a joy to listen to the aspirations of the young HR mentees and learning how HKIHRM can better support their journeys. A new youth employment initiative serving the wider community in Hong Kong is in its making, more exciting news will be shared later in the year.
The AI revolution is reshaping every organisation and employee, HKIHRM will continue to drive professional advancement, with a stronger focus on digital transformation and AI readiness. Throughout 2026, we will be launching more learning initiatives to support our members, please stay tuned for exciting updates in the coming weeks.
Over the past months, I have had the pleasure of meeting members from across industries and career stages — from veteran professionals to emerging talent. Your thoughtful insights and feedback about our work have been invaluable. Your voices shape HKIHRM’s direction and help us remain relevant to the profession we serve.
With your continued trust and partnership, I am confident that HKIHRM will keep growing as a vibrant, forward-looking, and impactful professional community in 2026.
